The 2013 Little Penguin Chardonnay 750ml: Description on label: The little penguin chardonnay is a uniquely good choice for those people who possess good taste and are also tight on cash. This product helps a large population of wine aficionados to savor good taste without having to spend a large sum of money on a 750ml bottle. The label shows that this bottle of chardonnay comes from South Eastern Australia which is why many consider it a real Aussie gem. Along with an attractive seabird, the label also reads “Chardonnay” which establishes the fact that this wine is made from green grape variety. The 2013 little penguin is predominantly made from green-skinned grapes, which form a white wine grape variety that is bound to produce the finest wines on earth. Explanation of history of wines/the area they come from: The little penguin chardonnay comes from South Eastern Australia as already mentioned. The grape variety is chardonnay. The 2013 vintage edition is made from the 2013 harvest. There is 100% chardonnay inside the bottle which confirms that this wine is not a blend variety. Just under $10, this is one of the perfect white wines which the market currently offers. The history of wines is very rich dating back to thousands of years. But, it was only during the era of the Roman Empire that winemaking improved considerably which introduced the world to a better taste and finer bottles. White wine can be produced anywhere that green or white-skinned grapes are grown. But, the little penguin chardonnay is primarily made from green grapes or chardonnay. This is the most popular white wine variety. Chardonnay grapes were originally grown only in France in areas like Burgundy. But, later it was discovered that this grape variety can adapt to a broad range of climates which is why the little penguin 2013 bottle contains wine which is made from Australian chardonnay grapes. However, originally chardonnay used to be grown in France primarily. From there, the knowledge of cultivating this white wine grape variety spread to Australia, China, and America. The largest amount of white wine is consumed by Australia. South Eastern parts of the country have excellent mountainous locations for the white wine producing vineyards. Discussion of geography of area where wines come from: Most wine producing areas in the world produce white wine which makes this wine variety most popular and dominant. Geographical distribution of wine producing regions also shows that the German vineyards produce white wine mostly. More than half of the production area is made up by white grape varieties like Chardonnay. High temperature zones are preferred for production of Chardonnay which makes South Eastern Australian vineyards very suitable for white winemaking. Like said before, southern areas in Australia have many ideal mountainous locations and the best white wine producing grapes like Chardonnay have a perfect marriage with soils over rocks. However, chardonnay is a grape variety which can adapt to almost all kinds of vineyard soils. The kind of vineyard soils that chardonnay likes the best are quite prevalent throughout the southern Australian parts. The taste of Chardonnay varies from area to area and is greatly influenced by climate conditions. In cooler regions, Chardonnay has a mild body and light flavor, while vineyards exposed to warmer climates produce wines having more pronounced flavors. However, in very warm geographical areas like the southern Australian parts, the Chardonnay that is produced has a strong body and it also has tropical fruit hints of melon and pineapple which is the case with the little penguin also. This explains why this particular chardonnay has such refreshing tropical fruits notes because of very warm locations where it came from. Description of wineries chosen: Rosemount Estate is the winery for the little penguin chardonnay 2013 bottle. This winery is located in South Australia. This wine estate is quite a treasure because the wines produced have a very rich body and bold flavors of which the little penguin is a very good example. Due to years of success and popularity, it has an established reputation as one of the country’s finest and leading wineries. There is a remarkable dedication to management of vines and harvest of grapes here. Many wise investments are made in the area of improving winemaking. It is strived to continuously add more excellence to the process of winemaking and the results are clearly noticeable in their final products. The Rosemount wines are particularly targeted to those customers who prefer rich flavor in their wines and also want them to not put too much pressure on their pockets. This is why it is one of the most important goals of the Rosemount winery to make it easier for a large number of people to enjoy rich and affordable white wines. Knowledge of grape variety: The southern areas are warmer which are ideally suited for harvesting Chardonnay to produce high quality white wine. The wine produced in such areas has typically a sweeter taste like the little penguin has. It was only in the second half of the 20th century that the harvest of chardonnay grapes really picked momentum in Australia which made possible the production of many good and budget-friendly wines like the little penguin. The taste of wines which come from southern areas is quite close to the taste of the wines produced in Mediterranean vineyards. Chardonnay serves as an easy entry into main wine market for many developing wineries. This is because chardonnay wine is most popular and consumed on a very large scale. This grape variety also forms an important constituent of champagne in addition to white wine. It is planted more than many other popular grape varieties which is partly due to the fact that this grape variety is adaptable to diverse climates. In addition to its ability to adapt to a wide range of climate conditions from cool to warm to very warm, it also has a global reputation for easy cultivation. This explains why chardonnay is one of the most frenetically planted grape varieties in the world. It takes quite a lot of pruning to manage the chardonnay vines because they have the most extensive leaf covers which can be an obstacle in the way of healthy nutrient uptake. Read More
