Program Development Introduction Depression is a part of the human life, which can affect human health in a considerable way. Abnormality in the mental leads to depression because maximum number of people faces this issue due to several reasons such as financial problem and job problem among others. Depression affects the life of people depending on various factors. It is evident that people feel sad but if the span of sadness is longer then it tends to become a sign of depression. It is a state wherein the person feels de-motivated and reveals a very low mood. In this context, it is worthy to state that there are several reasons for people to get depressed (European Communities, 2004). Working people have workload pressure and due to workload sometimes, they face frustration, mood swings and lose their mental calm leading to a state known as depression. Moreover, it is vital to state that people with depression do not even realize their illness and avoid consulting doctors. This is also regarded as a serious illness, which might lead to suicide attempt. From a medical perspective, it is situation where the mood and behaviour of people changes and affects their decision taking capability. Therefore, a program should be developed in the society for the people who face depression problem to increase awareness related to its impacts and symptoms. The purpose of the program is to improve the quality of life of people by increasing awareness and providing them better opportunities to live the life effectively (Cook, Burke & Petersen, 2004).This paper also deals with the recreational experiences along with the activities, which are involved in the program. This paper intends to provide a better insight to what the program will deal with and the time it will devote towards the welfare of people. Rationale of the Educational Program The educational program can be most appropriate program to create awareness among people who face depression problem along with people who are not facing the depression problem. Through educational programs, people will be able to increase their knowledge about how they can reduce their depression or mental problem and secure their health for a better life and mental problem (CDC, 2012). Educational program will be effective to identify the reason for such problem and analyse the same based on symptoms. Through the educational program, people of society can obtain information about the basic signs along with symptoms of depression (Hutchinson, 2011). The major aim of the educational program is to create awareness among people and enhance their knowledge about the depression or mental problem. Target Group of Educational Program The target groups for whom the educational program will be planned or organized are family members along with the people facing or not facing depression. Target group of educational program are divided into two groups to fulfill the aim of the educational program and create health awareness amid people. The objective of the educational program is to find out the solution to reduce the mental problem of people along with depression to ensure safety of people. Another objective of educational program can be to create recreational activities, divert their mind from and keep them happy so that they are able to cope up with the stress (Royal College of Psychiatrists, 2010). In this context, for the effectiveness of the program it is divided into various activities for creating awareness amid people. Description of different activities of Educational Program Educational program is the most appropriate program to create awareness among people of the society suffering from depression. The program will be effective in reducing the problem and reducing mental problem and mood along with behaviouraial changes. Health professionals or trainers, having adequate knowledge about depression, will conduct the educational program. It is important for the education program to be fun filled so that people enjoy their time and feel relaxed. Moreover, it is vital for the educational program to have a professional who would interact with people therefore should have good communication skills so that they can easily communicate with other and provide relevant information (American Psychological Association, 2015). Time duration of the educational program would be 8 weeks and teachers should provide 3 hours of classes per week to the people to create as well as increase awareness about the problem of depression. There will be 3 days class and one class would be of one hour. By providing 3 days class per week it is possible to increase the flow of the educational program into the mind of people and increase the interest of people about the educational program. The activities of educational program would be different from each week so that people gain information about the problem and improve their skills. There will be role-plays, communication skills program, and debate program involved in the educational program to create the awareness among people and enhance their knowledge base (World Health Organization, 2002). It is evident that if awareness is created considering the fun events, role-play, and making the sessions interactive then people will enjoy the classes and gain knowledge. The description of the classes is given below: First Week In the first day of first week, the trainers or health professionals will gather two groups of people and after that provide them information about the aim of the educational program as well as the future activities of educational program. After that trainer will interact with people and spread knowledge about the issue of depression. The target people for the program will be the people facing depression and others. In next day of first week, trainers will provide basic knowledge about the depression and mental health problem along with what are the causes of depression. In third day of first week, the trainer should provide information what can be the effects of the mental and depression problem and its consequences on the personal life (Strohle, 2008). Second Week In first day of second week, the trainers or health professionals will provide information about psychotherapy treatment to reduce depression or mental problem. In the society, maximum number of people faces depression and day by day, it affects the health of people. Therefore, psychotherapy is the major intervention to reduce the depression because it helps to improve the understanding level of people regarding the depression problem and it will be introduced in the educational program. In second and third day of second week, the health professional or trainers would provide practical examples about depression to increase their knowledge along with increase the awareness. Practical activities will be conducted in the educational program to make the classroom session more integrative (Strohle, 2008). Third Week After providing information about depression or mental problem, the health professional would conduct the role-playing regarding depression or mental problem in third week of educational program. Role-play is an acting through which people can gain knowledge about what are the symptoms of mental problem and depression problem along with what are the major interventions, which can work on depression problem. Through role-play, it is also possible to increase the awareness of the people related to depression. People who are not facing depression problem can also secure their life by increasing knowledge through educational program. Through educational program, people can also enhance their knowledge about health related problem and interventions for the safety of life (CHAMP, 2010). Fourth Week After third week of educational program, the health professional will be able to increase the understanding level about depression problem or mental problem. In fourth week of educational problem, health professionals should provide information about how they can tackle with the complex situation to improve the quality of life. In second day of fourth week, the health professional will also provide the information to increase the decision-making skills of the people of society. By enhancing the decision-making skills, the people can take the right decision in the complex situation and can ensure safety of life from depression. The health professional will provide information that people should involve in the other activities, which can make their life happy as well as effective (CHAMP, 2010). Fifth Week In fifth week, the health professionals or trainers will develop an assessment program through which they can understand their educational program effectiveness and analyze whether awareness among the people have been achieve or not. By conducting assessment, the health professionals can give feedback to people so that people can know their strengths and weaknesses and can take steps to reduce the weaknesses. Through the assessment program, health professionals can also realize the ability power of individual to tackle with the complex situation and depression. Based on the realization health professionals can provide further training. Depression is the problem, which can be reduced by the ability skills of individual people of society through proper guidance (CHAMP, 2010). Sixth Week After successful completion of fifth week, training program the health professionals or trainers should develop a discussion program in sixth week. In the discussion program, health professional will give feedback about their skills and ability power to tackle with depression and discuss with how they can support their family members if their family members face the depression problem. In the discussion program, people can also discuss their personal issues so that proper consultation is done. In this week, health professionals also should provide information about medication through which they can overcome their health illness and ensure the safety of life. Depression can also affect health of people therefore; people will be provided with proper knowledge in this program (NAMI, 2015). Seventh Week In seventh week, health professional also should develop the quiz program related to the depression or mental problem. Through quiz program health professional can obtain the learning capability of people of society. Through quiz program, awareness of people about depression can be increased successfully. This quiz program will be a recreational activity for people suffering from depression. . In this week, health professional also should provide the training to make the people self-dependent so that people can people could reduce their depression problem by applying their own strategies in the complex situation (NAMI, 2015). Eight Week In the last week of educational program, health professionals should conduct final assessment program to know the outcome of the educational program. Assessment program is also an important program through which health professionals can assess the awareness of people related to the depression or mental problem. In this week, the health professional or trainers should provide knowledge about the advantages of educational program. In this week, health professional should assess the confidence level of people who involved in the educational program. By creating and increasing the awareness of people, the health professionals can also help to increase their confidence level (NAMI, 2015). Conclusion From the above discussion, it can be stated that depression or mental problem affects every individual and affect the health of people in society. Most of people of society face depression problem along with mental problem therefore, they cannot do the activities of their daily life effectively. Most of the people of society do not have the knowledge and awareness about depression and its reason. From the above discussion, it can be observed that there is a need to develop the educational program for the enhancement of the people suffering from depression. The educational program as reflected will be divided into eight week and help in creating awareness as well as seek feedback for the enhancement of people living in the society. The educational program with the help of qualified as well as skilled health professional would ensure that people have information regarding depression Therefore, people can gain knowledge effectively and it helps them to improve the communication skills also. By providing week wise educational program it can be easy to provide accurate knowledge about depression. This educational program will be successful if people of society can obtain the knowledge and can utilize the knowledge in the complex situation of real life. From the above discussion, it can also be concluded that people suffering from depression need to feel happy and be interactive so that they feel happy and are no more in a state of depression.
