Article Summary: Learning and Perception This article examines learning and perception in human beings as they engage with their environment and are exposed to a variety of stimulus. These stimuli cause them to perceive and learn from the environment which in turn affects their behavior. The article emphasizes the fact that both learning and perception are distinct yet intertwined when it comes to human behavior. Incidents and events which occurred in the past tend to shape current human behavior.

This is the essence of learning. Learning typically occurs through classical conditioning, operant conditioning or perceptual learning. On the other hand, perception is the responsiveness of human beings towards events or objects that stimulate the sense organs. The human brain therefore plays a major role in perceiving the stimulus in the environment, learn from it and then result in a certain behavior. Again, things learnt in the past affects how one perceives things in the present. In this respect learning and perception are intertwined.

For example, a woman who lost her husband in a war might perceive a gun as a dangerous weapon while a child fascinated by cowboys may perceive the same gun as an exciting instrument with which he can have a lot of fun. This article is significant since it clearly demonstrates the importance of learning and perception, their interconnected nature and their effect on human behavior.
