Issues in Sexuality: Scholarly vs. Popular Media Research Document Submitted to XXXXXXXXX Graduate Faculty of the School of XXXXXXXX in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of XXXXXXXXXX by XXXXXXXX City, State November, 2013. Abstract This document will attempt to analyze how scholarly driven policy can fail on the implementation side due to media belligerence. The discussion will borrow a medical case – abortion - as a close example to compare how policies perform well on design but fail on account of implementation. Currently, over 200 hundred million pregnancies occur globally. Almost a third of these pregnancies are largely unwanted. Reasons to undergo abortions are either induced or therapeutic. Medically, abortion is the termination of pregnancy by a stringent removal of foetus from the embryo. In the developed world, abortion safest procedures in medicine are those examined by local laws. However, abortion is widely blamed for thousands of maternal deaths. In this relation, physicists have constantly attempted to improvise new and safe techniques, with the goal of reducing the number of maternal deaths associated with abortion. Medical abortions are tackled by the use of abortifacient pharmaceuticals. These are tablets which induce bodily physiological before the fetus developed. This document is essential since it will focus on how physicists attempt to enroll abortion safe strategies by the consideration that high birthrates do create impediments in the general economy. The paper will apprehend two articles – courtesy of a Scholarly article attempting to signify the importance of abortion, and a media article to the politics behind abortion. The discussion will provide criticism as to why scholars should relate to a particular article. Table of Contents Role of abortion in control of global population growth 5 Medical Article on Abortion 6 What do they have in common 7 How are they most different Error: Reference source not found What is the value for consumer reading each Error: Reference source not found Summary 8 Conclusion 9 Scholarly article on abortion The importance of abortion to the global economy This article attempts to examine the role of abortion in a control group. The article is based on the consideration that economic challenges are the primary causes of abortion attempts. According to an observation study completed by Filshie, & Guillebaud (289), the study sought to examine how abortion was applied in 116 economies. The article further clarified that the developed nations were economically required to maintain a constant rate of abortion at 201-500 per 1,000 live births to preserve their nation’s growth rates at below 1%. The argument was based on the fact that, in developed economies, both sexes are actively employed in formal and demanding employment. Thus, a higher birthrate will automatically result in more women being engaged in care activities. The direct consequence of this scenario is that; the economy will not have sufficient labor to accommodate demanding capital facilities. Again, the article attempted to argue that, the application of widespread abortion was not possible to achieve a growth rate of below 1%. In this case, the application of contraceptives was as well necessary with intent to achieve the required growth rate. Lack of coherent application of this method would ultimately mean that developed economies were required to maintain abortion rate of 200- 500 per 1000 live births. The study also sought clarity on developing nations, since in one way or another; their activities affected the global economy. The report established that developing nations were required to maintain abortion rates above 600 per 1000 live births ((Filshie, & Guillebaud, 290). However, on the account of developing nations, the report established that poor contraception methods were primarily responsible for increased need for abortion. Abortion in those countries is done using rudimentary systems which in most cases results to death. As a result, high infant and child mortality rates in developing countries can be blamed by use of rudimentary systems of abortion. The report recommended that safe abortion was guaranteed to the general population; with a goal of maintaining birth rate below 1% in both developed and developing countries. Media Article on Abortion When it comes to media, attention is always directed in a critic politicized method. Currently, natural news is prevailing on criticism that a chemically induced abortifacients morning after pills should not be put in question on age limits at point of sale. The Food and Drug Act (FDA) has instituted that the pill should be available to adolescents who are not capable economically. However, reproductive rights group are constantly agitating that the pill should not have age barriers. The civil groups are attempting to hold FDA accountable on the account of age barriers, which in this case, is viewed as limiting personal choices and freedoms. Nancy Northrup, CEO of Center for Reproductive Rights lamented that she felt that all ages had equal rights to access the pill. However, on a critic outlook, it is good to establish that FDA approach was perceived to encourage teenagers to have sex more often (Heyes, 2013). Their lamentation constantly said that abortifacients should note be authorized to teenagers without the consent of their parents. By merely advocating the use of the pill, FDA was deliberately encouraging more sex within teenagers. However, considering their largely ignorant camp of teenagers, and the rampant sex teenagers engage in; plus, lack of financial strength. Civil rights group argued that FDA approach will instantly result to more teenage pregnancies, thus, increasing the necessity of abortion. If not controlled, more teenage pregnancies will automatically lead a higher birth rate in teenagers. With this politics constantly affecting the whole concept of abortion, then developed countries goal of achieving 1% birth rate cannot be achieved in the near future. This article was substantial in arguing how civil camps have constantly ruined the whole concept of initiating particular policies (Heyes, 2013). The FDA approach is legitimate, taking to consideration that the most important factor of abortion is economical perspective. Critique What do they have in common? Both articles have attempted to present abortion cases and how it is necessary to reduce the occurrence of abortion. The articles have appointed economic factors as the leading cause of abortion and how countries should endeavor to reduce birth rate below 1%. In the two articles, any scholar will notice the role of the authorities in championing abortion strategies especially in developed countries. Consequently, any scholar will notice the constant role of civil rights activist in altering and instigating civil campaigns against or in favor of certain abortion strategies. How are the articles different? The two articles are largely different in a plethora of factors. Primarily, the first article is based on a scholarly statistical approach in analyzing abortion, while the second article prevails on the political perception generated by use of abortion. The first article goal is to ensure that countries, globally realize some inherent importance of abortion especially to the general economy. The article has attempted to present vital information regarding the general uses of abortion and how countries can achieve the below 1% birth rate on several accounts. On the second article, the relation of abortion to general politics, based on the goal of achieving the 1% mark is heavily visited. In this case, the ambiguous interpretation of different policies; for instance, over the counter policy is heavily examined. Again, the second article has successfully identified why measures established in the first article cannot be fully applied. This article is substantial in analyzing the FDA case, with a goal to seek clarity how different abortion situations forces policy formulators to structure policies which are largely viewed to affect particular groups in the society. In encapsulation, the first article sheds light on the operations of the second article. What is the importance of reading each article? Both articles are substantial in developing an analysis about the perception of abortion. However, on merit, the first article has much value compared to the second article. Primarily, the first article has attempted to establish statistical information on the various advantages of abortion. The article is substantial to any scholar, since it attempts to legitimize the concept of abortion to the general public. On the account of the second article, the article attempts to establish how bad politics have often constrained the faithful attempts of abortion campaigns. However, one will not fully learn using the second article, since in this case; the article does not present statistical backing to add value to it. This discussion will recommend the first article to be applied largely by medical practitioners, while the second article has much relevance on political debate and policy incentives. Conclusion This document has attempted to present why abortion policies are not well implemented despite efforts to make them look good. The paper is based both on scholarly outlook and a media article. The scholarly paper is critical in providing substantial evidenced on the necessity of abortion. While the media article present analysis of public perceptions. The document has attempted to signify that an abortion policy can be constructed with a genuine intent but fail on account implementation due to poor public consumption of media influence. In this document, the analysis to provide double outlook on policy implementation becomes a possible candidate while rethinking of implementing an abortion policy. The above two articles are interrelated in a technical method resulting to political analysis. While it is common knowledge that policies related to abortion have been implemented on several grounds, their implementation is often short lived due to activities of different groups. Again, another close consideration to be accessed while implementing an abortion policy is the nature of the policy itself. Primarily, the second article has analyzed the usage of a particular abortion pill and how policy is largely perceived ambiguous. Legalizing abortion and deciding specific age limits of abortions has often affected drawn political contention amongst countries. However, the consideration that no law can stop women from having abortion is often much discussed. This is the consideration that abortion has been a traditional underground business. These two articles have attempted to affirm the importance of abortion. Firstly, legal abortions are deemed to protect women health and their lives as well. However, as the second article, the discussion has emphasized teenage abortions should be conducted with consent of the mother. To achieve the one 1% birth rate nations should continue supporting abortion methods on several accounts. For instance, the above aforementioned use of abortifacients is a common applied method in abortion. The contention rises on how the method can be applied, without encouraging a particular group on more sex. The goal is to ensure that targets established in the first article, are well implemented and not a subject of politics in the second article (Ainsworth, 44). With this analysis at play, then proper abortion measures may not discourage the general public from initiating in to talks which should be considered advantageous to the entire community. In a close consideration of FDA objectives, the role played by policy makers as analyzed by the document is very substantial. Both articles one and article two are products of good policy measures. In this case, policies have lead to the maintenance of abortion levels at 456 per 1,000 live births in United States. What should be considered a priority is how to successfully fuse different implementation of policy to ensure that objectives are met different levels. Work Cited Ainsworth, Scott., & Hall, Thad.
