However, Downtown Disney contains three parts, Marketplace, Pleasure Island, and West Side that embrace a lot of shopping, dining, and amusement locations. They include the Disney Quest indoor arcade, a House of Blues caf and club, a Planet Hollywood restaurant, and a Cirque du Soleil drama plays. The CEO, Robert Iger, played a major role in Walt Disney Company. Robert Iger was born in New York. He completed his undergraduate studies at Ithaca College and started his career in media as a weatherman for a local television station.

In 1973, he joined the American Broadcasting Company and progressively he got promoted during the following decades. The Walt Disney Company purchased ABC and renamed in ANC Inc., where Iger remained as a president till 1999. In the following year, Disney replaced Iger at the helm of Steve Bronstein and made him the president of Walt Disney International, the company that oversees Disney's international operations. However, the resort has a little aircraft landing strip located east of the Magic Kingdom parking lot.

When the resort was opened in 1971, Shawnee Airlines began the usual traveler service from Orlando's McCoy Air Force Base in a straight line to Disney World's STOL port (Short Take-Off and Landing) on an everyday basis, with flights enduring just for a few minutes. Today, the runway mostly is used as a performance area for buses and no longer is in service for aircraft. At its climax, Disney World is occupied by about 30,000 acres. The whole land is outside Orlando's city boundaries. The greater part sits inside southwestern Orange County with the leftovers in neighboring Osceola County to the south.

When the Magic Kingdom was opened in 1971, the place employed about 5,500 cast members. Today it employs over 61,000, funding more than $1.1 billion on payroll and $478 million on reimbursement annually. Walt Disney World Resort has over 3,000 job classifications. Additionally, the resort also supports and manages the Walt Disney World College Program, an internship course that has American college students live on location and work for the resort, providing much of the theme park and resort front line, cast members.

There are thirty-two resorts situated on the resort property. Twenty-two of those resorts are Disney properties and are operated by the company itself. (Wikipedia, 2008).
